Disney Reportedly Asked Sony to Remove Tom Holland's Cameo in Venom

Before Venom came out, there were a lot of rumors going around that Tom Holland's Peter Parker was going to make a cameo. We got nothing in the theatrical cut of Venom, but as it turns out, Holland was supposed to be in the film, but Marvel was said to have asked him to be taken out.

This comes from the Collider podcast:

"I'll tell you the truth, Tom Holland did film a scene in Venom. I found this out. Marvel saw the movie, and was like, ‘Take him out. Take the scene out.' So Tom Holland did—Peter Parker was in Venom. Not Spider-Man. Peter Parker."

Seeing as how Venom was a critical bomb when it came out, it would make sense that Marvel wouldn't want Venom to be tied to the MCU. Personally, I thought it was the right move not to include it in the franchise. Though I thought the chemistry between Brock and the symbiote were great, there were just too many cringe-worthy moments in the film from the infamous ‘turd in the wind' line to the symbiote saying, "on my planet, I am kind of a loser like you."

Venom is basically a step-back for the comic book movie genre in my opinion, and if it were any better, maybe Marvel would have given the green light for the cameo.

For now, there are still rumors going around that Disney and Sony are once again in negotiations and the talks are looking better. Even if things don't push through though, some fans are already accepting the reality of a Spider-Man-less MCU. Hopefully, it doesn't come to that, but the fandom is getting ready for anything.

The extended cut of Spider-Man: Far from Home hits theaters today.
