Disney+ Officially Remaking Eoin Colfer's Artemis Fowl: Everything Confirmed So Far
During the 25th anniversary celebration of the book series at NYCC, author Eoin Colfer confirmed that Disney is officially bringing Artemis Fowl back as an animated series.
The animated project will follow 13-year-old criminal mastermind Artemis Fowl II as he uncovers a subterranean world of technologically armed fairies to kidnap one to hold for ransom, which will help him recover his family's fortune and save his sick mother.
Now, unlike the 2020 adaptation, Eoin Colfer will be actively serving in this series as an executive producer. In a statement, Colfer said he is "proud and delighted to be part of the formidable team that is putting the Artemis Fowl animation on screen."
Colfer added, "Everyone is so talented and so positive that I feel certain the fairy world is in excellent hands."
Joining Colfer as executive producers are animation veterans Ben Juwono (Marvel's Moon Girl and Devil Dinosaur, Big Hero 6: The Series) and Colleen Evanson (DuckTales, Monsters at Work).
How Different Will Artemis Fowl's Animated Series Be From the Previous Adaptations?

Considering that the 2020 adaptation was widely slammed by fans for stripping away Artemis Fowl's antihero edge, which turned him into a generic hero, the animated series is expected to return to the original books' roots, which depict Artemis Fowl as a cold, calculating prodigy who never fails to surprise fans with his unpredictable moves.
Unlike the live-action adaptation, the animated series provides greater visual freedom to portray the high-tech subterranean fairy civilization of Haven City, Gnome rune magic, and other non-human species like centaurs (Foaly) and dwarfs (Mulch Diggums) without the budget constraints the live-action faced in building its CGI effects.
Not to mention, choosing an episodic series is better for adapting the Colfer books faithfully, as this would not constrain the 11-book saga in limited time but rather expand the universe the way fans had always hoped it would.
