There has been major chatter regarding the use of AI-generated content by big production studios, and regardless of your stance on the matter, the folks at Disney aren't new to the discourse.

Recently, a promotional image for one of Disney California Adventure's annual attractions, the Oogie Boogie Bash, was released, which raised a few eyebrows for its alleged use of AI-generated images. But is there any truth to the claims? Find out here!

Did Disney Use AI in Promotional Poster for This Year's Oogie Boogie Bash?

X user and animator @Nintega_Dario took to the social media platform, claiming that the House of Mouse did, in fact, use AI in one of the promotional images for Disney California Adventure's Oogie Boogie Bash.

The image in question sees Mickey and Minnie Mouse holding hands, but something about it looks off as their hands appear to have bled into each other. Dario wrote: "Been an artist all my life, I can identify not just the hand but the wonky bats and the morphy humans to the side. Also, I don't remember Cinderella's nor Sleeping Beauty's Castle ever looking like that. It looks more like Muppet Vision 3D's Clock. Disney has done this before".

When one user pointed out that it could have been a rookie mistake by one of their "new" artists, Dario said that's impossible for a company that hires experienced staff.

For the uninitiated, Oogie Boogie Bash – A Disney Halloween Party is an after-hours Halloween spectacle that has been taking place at Disney California Adventure Park in Disneyland Resort since 2019.

As it stands, the company has yet to address the matter.

Should Disney's Efforts to Push AI-Generated Content Come as a Surprise?

With the growing popularity of artificial intelligence and the latest advancements in its technology, fans shouldn't be shocked if companies like Disney take advantage of it. Last November, they established a group that would oversee next-generation technology, led by former Disney Studios chief technology officer Jamie Voris.

This development came following reports that the company was about to launch a major AI initiative which goal is to transform the production company's creative output, primarily its post-production and visual effects.
