Fans are speculating that Renee Rapp might have thrown shade at her old TV series, The Sex Lives of College Girls, in her new single.

The singer-actress notably starred in the Max series for two seasons before leaving in the second episode of the third season. However, last March, Max decided to pull the plug on the series and not move forward with a fourth season.

Fans Believe Renee Rapp's New Single is Throwing Shade at The Sex Lives of College Girls

Rapp recently unveiled her new single titled "Leave Me Alone" ahead of her new album's release this August.

However, fans have noticed that one of the lyrics may have seemingly thrown shade at The Sex Lives of College Girls.

Rapp sings in the second verse of the song, "I took my sex life with me, now the show ain't f*cking / Leave me alone, bitch, I wanna have fun."

While Rapp has not officially confirmed that the lyric is a reference to her stint in The Sex Lives of College Girls, fans on social media can't help but interpret it that way.

Here are some of the posts from fans on X regarding the highly-discussed lyric:

Why Did Renee Rapp Leave The Sex Lives of College Girls?

Rapp decided to leave The Sex Lives of College Girls to focus on her music career.

As fans of Rapp have noticed, she has become a rising star thanks to her scene-stealing turn as Regina George in the Mean Girls musical film last year. Her song "Not My Fault" with Megan Thee Stallion hit multiple charts.

Co-showrunner Justin Noble explained in an interview last year that they wanted to give Rapp's character a proper sendoff, which is why she appeared in the first two episodes of the third season before her departure.

"This is Leighton Murray. The only thing she knows how to do is win. So, obviously, the only thing that was fitting is if she made a choice that was for her best self moving forward," he said.

"She sort of ends up excelling at the test of what college is more than any of the other girls. I think she just learned the lesson of what services her best future fastest.

Noble added, "It’s nice that it comes at such a, like, bittersweet loss. She doesn’t want to leave her friends, but she knows it’s what’s for the best."
