Did Lex Luthor and the Engineer Hook Up? Why Superman Star's "Kinky" Theory Makes Sense

Lex Luthor might be obsessed with taking down Superman for good, but did you ever think there's a possibility that he's had his own off-camera romance, too?

Superman star Maria Gabriela de Faría shared an interesting theory about Lex's potential intimate relations with the Engineer behind the scenes.

Any fan who watched Superman on the big screens could tell something was different whenever Lex (Nicholas Hoult) instructed the Engineer (played by Maria Gabriela de Faría). He wasn't forceful, nor did he ever lose trust that the Engineer would lose sight of her mission.

Faría shed more light on it with her own theory that perhaps something deeper was going on between the characters.

"He doesn't treat Engineer the way he treats other people," Faría recently told Collider, pointing out that they both respected each other more than their other colleagues, "I know that Eve is so hot and so great and so funny, but I don't feel like he sees eye to eye with her, and I feel like he likes to get kinky after hours with Engineer."

This isn't her first time bringing up her theory. In fact, in a separate conversation on the DC Studios Showcase Official Podcast (via PopVerse), Faría shared that Engineer and Lex might be in a "secret relationship."

Heck, Faría even told James Gunn, "I feel like they f***."

Considering how Lex is usually mean towards his gorgeous girlfriend, Faría added, "So I'm like, 'What if after hours, Engineer gets really mean with Lex and he loves it.' That's how it plays in my mind."

The question remains to be seen whether it is canon or not, but here's why Faría's theory makes sense.

Why Does the Superman Star's Theory Make Sense?

Throughout Superman, Lex has shown how disposable the women are in his life. He imprisoned his ex-girlfriend in his inter-dimensional prison after writing a hate blog about him, and he doesn't treat his current partner, Eve Teschmacher, like a human being, either.

The only other lady with whom he seems most comfortable being close to is Engineer, his most trusted colleague, who managed to hack into Superman's secret base and almost got rid of the Man of Steel himself through her powers. It wouldn't be surprising at all if Faría's theories turned out to be true.

If anything, Engineer is still one of his minions with whom he could do as he pleased. Who's to say it didn't go beyond her missions to kill everything that got in his way?
