What Led to Bakugo's Fatal Injury?
Heading into the final arc of KÅheiĀ Horikoshi's My Hero Academia, manga readers were expecting that some characters wouldn't make it out alive.
The Final War Arc is certainly living up to the dark implications of the title, as the final battle between the heroes and villain All For One and his protege Shigaraki raises the stakes as they claim some victims.
As expected from a proper shonen story, some deaths were bound to hit harder than others.
In Chapter 362 of My Hero Academia, Bakugo, leading pro hero Best Jeanist, and U.A.'s Big Three squad are the only ones left to hold AFO Shigaraki until Izuku Midoriya arrives with the power of One For All.
However, that didn't turn out to be enough to hold the line, and ultimately, Bakugo literally loses his heart after AFO Shigaraki lands a massive punch on his chest.
AFO Shigaraki's attack immediately ruptured Bakugo's heart, leaving a hole in his chest, while his lifeless body lay on the ground, much to the horror of Best Jeanist, Eraserhead, and the other barely conscious heroes on the battlefield.
All For One intends to kill Bakugo to wound Izuku as deeply as possible, and Bakugo is not the kind of hero to run away under any circumstances, so he faces the powerful archvillain despite his potential demise.
So, Does Bakugo Die in My Hero Academia?
As of My Hero Academia Chapter 403, Bakugo is still alive despite the injuries he sustained from AFO Shigaraki.
Bakugo was able to stand up, despite being covered in blood, holding his All Might card, in his attempt to save All Might from All For One.
For many chapters, Bakugo was barely alive thanks to the efforts of the hero Edgeshot, contrary to the initial speculations that he really died in the manga series.
Similar to the other heroes, Edgeshot is not one to give up on Bakugo. He even made the crucial decision to sacrifice years' worth of his lifespan in order to save Bakugo.
To stop Bakugo from dying, Edgeshot uses his ultimate move called Zenith, where he turns into a very thin suture to repair all the damages in Bakugo's heart, all the while performing CPR.
It is unclear whether Edgeshot can return to his normal state, but knowing Kohei Horikoshi's attitude toward killing off characters, there's a possibility that Edgeshot will come back alive, despite his heroic sacrifice.
As expected, Bakugo still has to play a crucial role in the final fight between Deku and Shigaraki.
He is one of the many reasons Deku is constantly fighting, and it will be such a shame if he gets killed off in the manga series that way.
Is There Another Way to Save Bakugo?
My Hero Academia fans know that there's one character who has the ability to revive Bakugo and reverse his death, and that person is Eri, the granddaughter of Shie Hassaikai's boss.
She has a unique Reversal Quirk capable of reversing the state of any living being to an earlier point in existence.
Eri used this Quirk when she erased her father from existence, "healed" Deku to a point where One For All hadn't damaged his limbs in his battle against Overhaul, and brought back Mirio's powers following the erasure of his Quirk.
