Diane Keaton’s health had reportedly declined rapidly in the months before her sudden death on October 11 at 79 years old.
Known for her roles in Annie Hall and The Godfather, the Oscar-winning actress enjoyed a flourishing career that spanned over five decades, worked with some of the most acclaimed actors and actresses in the industry, and was beloved by many.
So, what happened to the iconic star who rose to prominence during the New Hollywood movement?
What Happened to Diane Keaton?

The cause of Keaton’s death hasn’t been revealed yet, but her health allegedly deteriorated rapidly that surprised not just her family but everyone around her.
“She declined very suddenly, which was heartbreaking for everyone who loved her,” a friend of the Something’s Gotta Give star told People. “It was so unexpected, especially for someone with such strength and spirit.”
The source continued that she was “surrounded only by her closest family, who chose to keep things very private.”
As no one really knew about the state of her health, even Keaton’s longtime friends were said to be not “fully aware of what was happening.”
However, Keaton made a surprising move in the months leading up to her passing. In March, she listed what was deemed her “dream home,” which inspired her book The House That Pinterest Built, in Los Angeles for $29 million after previously revealing she had planned to live there permanently.
She was also rarely seen outdoors in her Brentwood neighborhood in recent months, despite previously being spotted walking her dog every day.
“She lived in Brentwood for many years,” an insider said. “She loved her neighborhood. Up until just a few months ago, she’d walk her dog every day. She was usually dressed the same — with a hat and her signature sunglasses, regardless of the weather.”
The source even described Keaton as “nice, funny, and chatty,” talking to her as if it was a real person.
“She was eccentric and had this old-school Hollywood aura. She was very, very special,” they added.
How Much Is Diane Keaton Worth?

Keaton wasn’t only known in Hollywood circles for her incredible style but also for being a savvy real estate flipper.
In fact, she specialized in restoring historic homes, thanks to her deep appreciation for architecture and design—particularly Spanish Colonial, Mission Revival, and mid-century modern styles.
According to Celebrity Net Worth, several of her homes were sold to fellow celebrities, including a 100-year-old mansion she bought for $8.1 million in 2007 and later sold to American Horror Story producer Ryan Murphy for $10 million.
She also purchased a Bel Air home for an undisclosed amount in 2002 and sold it to a tech executive for $16.5 million after renovations in 2005.
Other properties she sold included a Laguna Beach home that she bought for $7.5 million and sold for $12.75 million, as well as a Pacific Palisades residence that went for over a million dollars after restoration.
With that being said, it’s no surprise that Keaton was worth an estimated $100 million at the time of her death. She is survived by her two children, daughter Dexter and son Duke.
