Denis Villeneuve's Dune Adds Stellan Skarsgård As Baron Harkonnen

The Marvel Cinematic Universe stars are coming to Arrakis. Just a few days after Guardians of the Galaxy star Dave Bautista was confirmed to join the cast of the Denis Villeneuve film, his fellow MCU star Stellan Skarsgård has been cast as the terrifying Baron Vladimir Harkonnen.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Skarsgård has accepted the villainous role of Baron Harkonnen. The character will work closely with Bautista's Glossu "Beast" Rabban, who is described as "sadistic." Man, these MCU stars really don't like Paul Atreides.

Baron Harkonnen is one of the most visible and feared characters in Dune. He was previously played by Kenneth McMillian in David Lynch's 1984 adaptation. Ian McNeice took over as Vladimir in the 2000 miniseries as well as the sequel Children of Dune. It would be interesting to see how Skarsgård will take on the iconic role.

Dune will star Call Me By Your Name actor Timothee Chalamet as Paul Atreides, who is set to rule Arrakis. His mother Lady Jessica will reportedly be played by Rebecca Ferguson (Mission: Impossible - Fallout). Duke Leto and Alia Atreides have not yet been cast but there is little doubt that these characters will soon be announced.

The film has not yet started production. Although it was previously reported that the filming will begin in February, the schedule has been moved back to allow for some script adjustments. Principal production is expected to begin in March so stay tuned for more casting news and updates on the highly anticipated adaptation.
