David Leitch may be directing films like John Wick, Deadpool 2, and Atomic Blonde now, but back then he was doing stunt work for films like Fight Club and Blade. Leitch has also worked on the Matrix films back in the day, and with a fourth film coming out, he says he would be open to working on the film—whatever job the Wachowskis offer him.
Talking to ComingSoon, Leitch says, "If Lana [Wachowski] called and wanted me to do anything on that movie, I would come, I'd carry a c-stand or sandbags. I loved working with her and I loved working with her sister and I feel like I owe so much of my filmmaking background to working on not only the Matrix movies but also Speed Racer, Ninja Assassin. They were great mentors to me, so if they call I'll be there. Catering [even]!"
Of course, it's unlikely that he would suddenly drop directing to go do that kind of job for another film, but the sentiment is there, and it's nice to see that he still has an appreciation for the Wachowskis after he's grown in his career.
Admittedly, the Wachowskis have not managed to get a hit since The Matrix, and this seems like a return to form for the siblings. Besides Keanu Reeves, Carrie-Anne Moss, and Jada Pinkett Smith making their comebacks to the franchise, the movie will also feature appearances from Neil Patrick Harris and Yahya Abdul-Mateen II.
No release date has been set for Matrix 4, but the movie is expected to come out sometime in 2022.
