It looks like Deadpool 2 producers have been fined $300k for the on-set death of stuntwoman Joi Harris back in August 2017.
Described by Cable actor Josh Brolin as a "freak accident," Harris met her death after crashing into a sidewalk curb and hurdling through a glass window at Shaw Tower while filming a stunt for Deadpool 2. Harris was a stunt double for Domino actress Zazie Beetz and while she was a professional racer, it was the first time that she'd done stunts for film. Harris had also been a late addition to the Deadpool 2 crew.
Because of her death, Deadpool 2 had been forced to shut down for 48 hours. Harris family has been looking for justice for her death, and now, three years after the incident, it seems like punishment has finally arrived at the doorsteps of the film's producers.
According to a report by ComicBook.com, TFC Vancouver Productions Ltd., one of the production companies behind Deadpool 2, had been fined by WorkSafeBC for a total of $289, 562.63.
In its decision for the fine, WorkSafeBC made note of the company's "failure to ensure the health and safety of all workers," "failure to ensure the health and safety of the stunt performer by failing to provide adequate supervision with respect to this work activity," and "instructing the stunt performer not to wear safety headgear while operating the motorcycle" as the reasons behind the fine.
As it turns out, Harris had not been given a Helmet to wear under the Domino wig while performing the stunt because of her late inclusion in the production.
Though the near $300k fine can't bring Harris back, we hope that the stuntwoman's family will find justice.
