DC Studios and Max have finally set the release for the highly-anticipated DCU animated series Creature Commandos.
The project will mark the beginning of the new DCU franchise under the management of James Gunn and Peter Safran before it officially launches on the big screen with Superman.
The series will focus on a black ops team of monsters created by Amanda Waller with Rick Flag Sr. leading the group. Gunn also serves as the showrunner and the voice director for the main cast.
Creature Commandos Sets Release Date
DC Studios announced that Creature Commandos will be premiering on Max this December 5. New episodes will be released weekly until January 16, 2025.
Gunn also teased what he has in store for the series in a recent interview where he compared it to the Guardians of the Galaxy trilogy.
"I'm used to dealing with oddballs and irregular types and weirdos. That's what Guardians is, and Creature Commandos is kind of like Guardians without the sentimentality. The Guardians are all really good characters at their heart, and that just isn't necessarily the case with the creatures," he said.
While the series will launch the DCU, Gunn clarified that Superman will be the "true" beginning of the universe but Creature Commandos will still offer easter eggs and references to the other parts of DC.
"Superman is the true start of everything, it's a humongous epic. This is a way for people to just take a little nibble and see what it tastes like," he explained.
"There are a ton of fun references to other DC stuff, a bunch of hints for things that are coming. So I think it's just an extraordinarily fun way to start."
This is an exciting update for fans who have been looking forward to the series as they can now mark their calendars and plan their holidays ahead to spend time with the new DC team.
