Henry Cavill's official departure from the DC Universe is undoubtedly one of the biggest news to ever hit the comic book film fandom last year and as it stands, James Gunn and Peter Safran are very eager to start with a clean slate. Gunn has drawn flak on social media over the last couple of months, especially after revealing that Cavill was never in consideration for their rebooted DCU.
Interestingly, the Peacemaker director also stated that the door will always be open for Cavill's involvement, even saying that he's interested in giving the ex-Superman actor a brand new role in the franchise. Now, a new report claims that the offer is in fact on the table with the ball being on the British star's court.
According to a new report from Giant Freakin Robot, DC Studios' higher-ups still have their sights set on working with Cavill in the future. Obviously, it won't be for Superman but details about his possible character weren't disclosed. It's also unclear if the actor is interested in taking on a different role in the rebooted franchise given how messy his whole DCEU tenure was.

As much as I'd like to see Cavill renew his DCU journey, I think it'd be quite awkward for fans to see him play a character other than Superman. It would feel like a major downgrade, too unless DC Studios is giving him an A-list role. That said, I hope he jumps ship to the Marvel Cinematic Universe for a fresh start.
The DC Universe's first chapter begins with Superman: Legacy which is slated for release on July 11, 2025.
