Batman: Black and White, one of the greatest DC anthologies ever made, is coming back for the holidays and we could not be happier. For those unfamiliar, the gist of these anthologies is that a lineup of all-star creators tell short stories about Batman without having to pay attention to things like continuity, giving them absolute freedom to do whatever they want. Like before, the creators chosen for this iteration of the popular series are pretty spectacular.
DC Comics has announced the following creative teams for Batman: Black and White Vol. 5:
Paul Dini & Andy Kubert
Tim Seeley & Kelley Jones
Emma Rios
John Arcudi & James Harren
Gabriel Hardman & Corinna Bechko
JH Williams III
Tom King & Mitch Gerads
G. Willow Wilson & Greg Smallwood
Sophie Campbell
David Aja
Dustin Weaver
Bilquis Evely
Joshua Williamson & Riley Rossmo
James Tynion IV & Tradd Moore
Lee Weeks
Chip Zdarsky & Nick Bradshaw
This isn't the final list either as more creators will be announced for the six-issue prestige format series. We really like who they chose and seeing JH Williams III work with DC again after a nasty breakup occurred when the company wouldn't let him wed Batwoman and his girlfriend during The New 52 is a Christmas miracle in of itself.
We always think that every Batman story has already been told but anthologies like Batman: Black and White always surprise us. The stories either find ways to reinvent old cliches or bring Batman to a completely new setting we haven't seen before. Here's hoping that this volume of Black and White continues that trend of quality stories.
Batman: Black and White will be coming out on December 8.
