The popular series Dandadan may now be part of the Marvel universe after making an appearance in an issue of Avengers Academy.
If you’re curious about this unexpected cameo, let’s take a closer look at the details below!
Dandadan Makes A Surprising Cameo in an Avengers Academy: Marvel’s Voices Infinity
Since its release in 2024, Science Saru’s Dandadan has made a strong impression in the anime world, but a recent cameo in the Marvel universe suggests that its popularity has reached beyond its usual realm.
In issue #32 of Avengers Academy: Marvel’s Voices Infinity, a comic by Anthony Oliveira and Carola Borelli, Ken Takakura (Okarun) and Momo Ayase make an Easter egg appearance in one of the panels.
This scene features Normie Osborn and Aaron Fischer in a café, and as the latter heads to the exit, the two main leads are seated just behind Harry Osborn’s son.
Readers may have missed them at first, as they might appear like “NPCs” to the casual observer, but keen-eyed fans have spotted a boy with curly hair holding his oversized glasses in the way Okarun always does in the anime and manga.
Meanwhile, his companion is none other than his love interest, Momo Ayase. Only her back is visible in the comic, but her brown hair and green earrings make it glaringly evident that it’s her.
What makes this Easter egg notable is how it also reflects what Dandadan is known for, its pop culture references.
Just like in Avengers Academy: Marvel’s Voices Infinity, the series created by Yukinobu Tatsu has also nodded to franchises popular in the West, such as Godzilla, ABBA, and Star Wars.
Marvel Comic Artist Confirms that It’s a Real Dandandan Cameo on Issue #32
Dandadan is one of the series that has become a cultural phenomenon, managing to appear in another form of media beyond anime—something Yamcha from Dragon Ball Z has done frequently.
However, some initially thought fans were reaching when they claimed to have spotted an Easter egg.
Thanks to comic artist Pablo Moreno Collar, who also served as the penciler for Avengers Academy: Marvel’s Voices Infinity, it’s now confirmed that Okarun and Momo really did appear in issue #32.
When someone commented on Instagram, “[Were those] Momo and Okarun from Dandadan as background characters?” Pablo replied, “Ah, a person of culture.”
Another user said, “Man, it’s so cute that you put Momo and Okarun [on] a date in your comic,” to which he responded, “They can’t be free of aliens even while traveling.”
