Donald Trump recently made fun of his friend who takes Ozempic, adding that the weight-loss drug doesn’t seem to be working on him.

The president shared the story about his businessman pal with reporters while discussing his new executive order aimed at lowering prescription drug prices in the U.S.

Trump Jabs at Friend in Business Over Ozempic Use

Donald Trump signed an executive order to lower the prices of pharmaceuticals on Monday, and while noting the significant disparities between the cost of drugs in the U.S. and other countries, he shared a story about a friend who uses Ozempic.

He said his friend, who’s also a famous businessman, called him one day to complain about the price difference of Ozempic in the U.S. and the U.K.

The 47th President of the United States didn’t name him but hinted, “most have probably heard of him,” and described him as a “highly neurotic, brilliant businessman, seriously overweight,” who “takes the fat shot drug.”

“And he called me up and he said,” Trump recalled. “‘President, can I ask you a question?’ ‘What?’ ‘I’m in London and I just paid for this damn fat drug I take…’”

Before his friend could finish, Trump cut in and said, “It’s not working.”

The “very successful” businessman went on to tell the former president that he bought the drug in the U.K. for $88, while it usually costs him $1,300 in New York.

“What the hell is going on?” Trump’s friend reportedly asked, adding that after checking, he discovered the product he purchased in London came from the same company and was produced in the same plant as the one he gets in the U.S.

While the price of medicine and healthcare remains a major concern in the U.S., the internet couldn’t help but speculate about Trump’s mysterious friend, whom he also described as “very rough and smart.”

Many users on X guessed it was Elon Musk, considering the billionaire’s known support for the former president.

Others believe it might be former New Jersey Governor Chris Christie, whom Trump has mocked for his appetite before, at one point posting a bizarre AI-generated image of him eating McDonald’s delivered by drones.

Musk has also admitted to taking Wegovy in 2022, a drug similar to Ozempic, after a user on X asked how he became “fit, ripped, and healthy.”

What Is the Ozempic Drug and Why Is It a Craze Among Celebrities

The Ozempic craze began in 2021, when it was featured in a segment on Dr. Oz titled “Could a Diabetes Drug Cure Obesity?”

Manufactured by Novo Nordisk, Ozempic is an FDA-approved injectable medication used by patients with Type 2 diabetes to manage blood glucose levels.

It’s also one of the most sought-after drugs among celebrities, as one of its known side effects is weight loss.

Ozempic, and Wegovy, gained even more popularity after posts on TikTok with the hashtag #OzempicChallenge went viral. Because of that, the drug became harder to find in 2022, and many people with diabetes started struggling to get their prescriptions.

Several A-listers who have publicly acknowledged using Ozempic, aside from Musk, include Oprah Winfrey, Meghan Trainor, James Corden, and Amy Schumer.
