The Dandadan Season 1 finale ended just as fans predicted -- with a cliffhanger. Episode 12 left off right when things were starting to heat up, marking the beginning of one of the most exciting arcs so far, the Cursed House Arc.
Jiji was introduced in Episode 10, which initiated the start of the Cursed House Arc. However, Season 1 ended with viewers only scratching the surface of the mysterious house.
If you don’t want to wait months for Season 2 to uncover the secrets of the cursed house, we’ll explain what we know from the manga!
Warning: The following article contains spoilers for the Cursed House and Evil Eye arcs in Dandadan so read at your own risk.
What is the Cursed House in Dandadan?
The first time the “Cursed House” is mentioned in the anime is in Episode 11 when Jiji tells Momo the reason for his unexpected visit.
From the first few minutes of the episode, Jiji is portrayed as someone exuding energy and confidence. But his personality does a complete 180-degree turn when he explains the unusual and eerie things happening in his house, signifying the fear and trauma he truly holds inside.
Jiji’s house is located in the mountains, far from Enoshima, meaning Seiko’s powers will not be effective there. So she sends Okarun, Momo, and Jiji to perform a house exorcism in Jiji’s hometown.
Episode 12 primarily focuses on the trio’s journey to Jiji’s home, which sits atop a large hill in Daija Town. On the way there, Jiji mentions his hometown’s revered Great Snake legend.
As they arrive at the house, several citizens with “uncanny valley” smiles are seen watching the trio from a distance. These details are crucial as they foreshadow the secrets that will unfold in Season 2.
What Secrets Does The Cursed House Hide?
The house, as Turbo Granny puts it, is soaked in blood and holds a sinister creature along with a vengeful spirit. However, even with her strong psychic powers, Momo tells Jiji she can't sense any spirits. The psychic gyaru suggests they might be hiding at the moment, before rushing off to the hot springs.
Okarun notices something odd about Jiji’s home -- an extra building connected to the house is strangely inaccessible from the inside. After checking it out, they realize the wall of this section is hollow, so they decide to break through it with a sledgehammer.
Season 1’s final episode ends with them discovering an unsettling room covered in talismans. Meanwhile, Momo finds herself fighting for her life as townspeople with chilling intentions attack her.
Luckily, she survives by using her powers (and because part of the hot spring wall collapses on the men). To her surprise, Turbo Granny secretly tagged along with them. It turns out the attackers are part of the Kito Family, the original owners of Jiji’s house.
The Kito Family worships what they believe to be the Tsuchinoko (Great Snake) and has been luring renters into the home to sacrifice them. In fact, Jiji’s family is their latest victim.
But they’re not the only threat. A vicious spirit called the Evil Eye has grown stronger inside the house and is also after Jiji, hoping to use him as a host to fulfill its goal of wiping out humanity.
The Cursed House and Evil Eye arcs are among the most highly anticipated parts of the Golden Ball Hunt saga. With Dandadan Season 2 announced right after the Season 1 finale, fans are eager to see how these arcs will develop in the anime. Unfortunately, they’ll have to wait until July to find out!
