Jim Carrey might just be the next Freddy Krueger, so does that mean fans can expect the next A Nightmare on Elm Street film to be in the making?
Franchise director Chuck Russell explained in a recent interview why Jim Carrey would be the next best bet to lead the horror franchise, should he be in charge of casting.
Why A Nightmare on Elm Street Director Believes Jim Carrey is Perfect to Be Freddy

The director, Chuck Russell, had worked on both A Nightmare on Elm Street 3: Dream Warriors and with Jim Carrey on separate occasions. Russell helmed Carrey's The Mask in 1994, and considering how the award-winning actor chooses his projects, he is confident that Freddy's shoes might fit.
"Jim, in my opinion, could almost do anything if he put his heart into it," Russell said in an interview with JoBlo, but if Carrey were to take the lead, the director had one condition. The project would have to be a fresh take on the classic horror.
"For Jim to do it, we'd have to do something that was another leap in the Elm Street series — a little bit like what Wes did with his very meta New Nightmare," Russell continued, "I think Jim would only consider it, and I'd only consider harnessing Jim, if there was a bold new direction for Elm Street."
Previously, Freddy has been portrayed by two actors, Robert Englund and Jackie Earle Haley. Englund portrayed Freddy in every other A Nightmare on Elm Street film and other media appearances, while the latter only played the dream demon in the 2010 remake.
To have Carrey, a twisted and comical actor, join this franchise would do wonders for a fresh new take. If anything, the 'fresh take' Russell is hoping for might just be the actor's portrayal altogether!
Jim Carrey Has Just Returned From Retirement: What's Next on His Roster?

Despite previously retiring, Carrey returned to film with the fan-favorite Sonic the Hedgehog series as Ivo Robotnik, aka Doctor Eggman, and is now rumored to star as George Jetson in the reboot of the classic Hanna-Barbera show, The Jetsons.
While Carrey is historically known for his comedic and more serious roles, adding Freddy Krueger to the list would only expand the actor's capabilities and showcase of talent on-screen.
Carrey is known for being very committed to his projects and has been vocal about being selective in what roles he would take after his comeback, so who's to say he won't consider strolling down Elm Street for a change of scenery?
