Is Apple TV's Constellation series anything like The Cloverfield Paradox? As the streamer adds a new sci-fi series to its roster, fans found similarities between the upcoming show and one of the classic movies from the Cloverfield anthology.
Here's what fans of spooky-in-space have to say.
CONTENT SPOILERS: This article includes spoilers for The Cloverfield Paradox, so proceed with caution.
A Mother Pays the Price in Apple TV's Constellation
The Constellation series stars The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo and What Happened to Monday's Noomi Rapace and Breaking Bad's Jonathan Banks as two scientists trying to understand what lies beyond the metaphysics of outer space.
As astronaut Jo (Rapace) returns to Earth after a devastating accident wipes out most of her colleagues on the ship, she starts experiencing delusions and amnesia triggered by an unknown entity and by the strange device Banks' character used on the mission.
Much of the Apple TV show focusses on Jo's struggle to remember who she is and what life her life was like before her memories disappeared.
This wouldn't be the first time a sci-fi series tackled a conspiracy theory-based reality warp and some fans have pointed out similarities with The Cloverfield Paradox.
The Cloverfield Paradox Explores the Dangers of Alternate Universes
Earning a total of 21% "rotten reviews" on the Tomatometer, The Cloverfield Paradox overall had mixed reactions from fans and critics.
Despite the stellar cast of Marvel's Gugu Mbatha-Raw and Daniel BrĆ¼hl alongside The Crown's Elizabeth Debicki, the film unfortunately fell flat.
The Cloverfield Paradox seemingly drew inspiration from the conspiracy theory behind the long sought-after Higgs boson aka the "God Particle", discovered by the scientists at CERN in July of 2012.
As the film explained, the Cloverfield space station's particle accelerator could tear a hole in the fabric of spacetime, which would lead to two or more alternate dimensions crashing into each other. The results memory loss and time jumps could have devastating consequences on the lives of those involved.
Sound familiar? Well, only kind of.

Fans Weigh in on Constellation vs The Cloverfield Paradox
Sci-fi fans went on Reddit to exchange some initial thoughts on how closely similar Apple TV's Constellation feels to The Cloverfield Paradox.
Both the film and the series are based on conspiracy theories, and they seem to involve being stuck in two different places or worlds (multiverses) after the astronauts encounter a mystical entity or object.
According to one comment, "[While] we're getting more and more content, the themes all seem the same."
But this is not to cast shade on Constellation.
Even though it may explore similar themes to its sci-fi predecessors, the Apple TV+ series will focus more on characters' internal and interpersonal turmoil, as the streamer has carved out a reputation for this kind of content.
In this case, Constellation does not only spotlight the strange device Banks used to cause the phenomenon but will also focus on the relationship between a mother and a daughter trying to reconnect from where they last left off.
Luckily, this leaves some space for the show to improve on classic sci-fi tropes like those explored in The Cloverfield Paradox.
Constellation streams on Apple TV+ on February 21.
