Chris Evans Defends Captain America Goodbye Tweet, Says 'It Was Appropriate'

People are probably still trying to deal with Chris Evans' goodbye tweet that he posted when he wrapped filming on Avengers 4. After all, the message had everyone concerned about Captain America's fate in the Marvel Cinematic Universe sequel. However, Evans insists that the tweet "was appropriate" and didn't spoil anything about the movie.

Evans recently made an appearance at the ACE Comic-Con in Chicago where he addressed the fan reaction to his goodbye tweet (via ComicBook.com).

"I should clarify that I know I did tweet something that made a lot of people think that it was in some way a spoiler. I should clarify that regardless of how Avengers4 ends, I would have tweeted the exact same thing. That last day of filming was a very emotional day and it was the culmination of almost 10 years of filming and 22 movies, this unbelievable tapestry. You feel a lot more emotions than I think even I thought I'd feel. And I felt it was appropriate to share the gratitude."

So did the tweet reveal if Captain America will be killed off in Avengers 4? Evans is standing by his message, which he believes didn't spoil his character's fate. "I know it had a ripple effect but I am neither confirming or denying anything," he said.

The idea of Captain America getting killed in Avengers 4 might certainly seem drastic. It's still possible that Steve Rogers will simply choose to put down his shield or pass it on to the next big hero who can defend the world. Nevertheless, it's still devastating to imagine the future of MCU without Evans.

Evans will reprise his role in the still untitled Avengers 4, which is scheduled for release on May 3, 2019.
