Chris Evans recently admitted the reason why he decided to return as Steve Rogers in Avengers: Doomsday.

While many fans are happy to see the original MCU star reprise his iconic character in the upcoming film, some are still surprised he agreed to return, considering that he has presumably retired from the role at the end of Endgame. There are also questions about whether his return is a one-off or if he will still make more appearances after Secret Wars.

During his appearance at Fan Expo Boston, Evans shared the real reason why he agreed to reprise the role of Steve Rogers in the upcoming Avengers movies.

He clarified that he was not willing to return to the MCU if there was no right reason for his character to be brought back.

"I guess it’s a never-say-never, but certainly not willing to just jump back in for anything because I think everyone here is precious with their role in the universe," the actor said.

Not only that, Evans emphasized that he loves playing the character, despite his absence for several years, and he was protective of him when there were discussions about him returning.

He added, "I feel very at home with the role. I feel very not just comfortable, but precious. I care about the arc of all these characters, and we wouldn’t be doing it unless there was going to be a really interesting situation to put him in."

Evans teased that Steve Rogers will be facing a tough challenge when we see him in Doomsday.

"The Russos love beating up Steve Rogers. Their favorite thing to do is to just beat the crap out of him. To them, that’s what makes a hero, and that’s someone who never gets punched, but someone who gets punched so many times, but still gets up," he said.
