Sharon Stone recently shared her candid take on the Basic Instinct reboot that is currently in the works.

Last month, it was reported that Amazon MGM Studios is developing a reboot of the 1992 classic, with original writer Joe Eszterhas penning the screenplay. Fans were wondering whether the original cast members would be involved in some capacity, including Stone, who made her breakthrough in the villainous role of Catherine Tramell.

In an interview on Today (via Variety), Stone was asked about her thoughts on the Basic Instinct reboot that is currently in the works at Amazon MGM Studios.

She questioned whether the project could succeed, considering that the sequel, released in 2006, had failed at the box office and was panned by critics.

"If it goes the way the one I was in went, then I would just say I do not know why you would do it. Go ahead. Good f***ing luck!" the actress said.

Stone was also asked about her candid approach to the question and why she doesn't seem to care about what anyone thinks of her.

She said, "I’m at that stage in my life where I already retired once. And I already died a couple times. I’m like, ‘What are you going to do? Kill me again? Go ahead.'"

No casting decision has been made yet on who might take over the role of Catherine Tramell in the reboot.

What is the Legacy of Basic Instinct?

Basic Instinct remains a classic to this day, despite some of the outdated elements that may not hold up to the current movie audience.

The film was a huge box office success when it was released in 1992, as it managed to gross $353 million worldwide. The critics were divided at that time, but it has gained a cult following throughout the years.

In a recent interview, Stone revealed that Michael Douglas initially did not want to screen-test with her as they had a fight prior.

"Michael Douglas did not want to put his bare ass out on the screen with an unknown. And I understood that. He wouldn’t even test with me. But that was also for a different reason; we had an argument prior to that," she said.

Stone and Douglas eventually managed to work things out, and their personal tension worked out for the dynamic of their characters.

"It worked great, because I was not rattled if he yelled at me. That was interesting for the character, because Michael has a temper, and I didn’t care," the actress explained.

"That worked very well in our dynamic. Eventually, we became the greatest of friends, to this day. I admire him tremendously."
