Before she officially became Captain Marvel, there were other Marvel Cinematic Universe roles that Brie Larson actually auditioned for, including a part in Jon Favreau's 2010 movie, Iron Man 2 and Kenneth Branagh's Thor from 2011.
The actress has been sharing the various projects that she auditioned for over the years on her YouTube channel. In Larson's most recent video, she revealed that along with the MCU roles she didn't get, she even turned down the part for Captain Marvel twice.
It's unclear which parts she tried out for in Iron Man 2 and Thor since the actress didn't go further into detail. For the latter movie, prominent characters include Jane Foster, which went to Natalie Portman, as well as Darcy Lewis, eventually played by Kat Dennings. As for Iron Man 2, the most likely part she auditioned for is Black Widow, a role that went to Scarlett Johansson.
Aside from the two MCU films and saying yes to playing Captain Marvel when Marvel asked her for the third time, Larson also tried out for projects like Sucker Punch, Gulliver's Travels, Percy Jackson and the Lightning Thief, Angels in Stardust, The Sorcerer's Apprentice, The Descendants, Jennifer's Body, and many more.
As one can tell, everything turned out for the best for Larson, which shows that her time in the MCU was destined to come later. The actress will return for Captain Marvel's second outing on July 2022, with Candyman's Nia DaCosta tapped to direct the sequel.
