Now that Avengers: Endgame has culminated the last ten years of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, fans can't help but wonder about the future of the Marvel film franchise. What will become of the Avengers now that Captain America (Chris Evans), Iron Man (Robert Downey Jr.), and Black Widow (Scarlett Johansson) are gone?
While Marvel has yet to reveal its plans for the Avengers in Phase 4 and Phase 5 of the MCU, Showbiz Cheat Sheet reports that fans have begun discussing the possibility of Captain Marvel (Brie Larson) taking charge of the Earth's Mightiest Heroes.
In a recent thread on Reddit, Captain Marvel fans have been speculating whether Carol Danvers would ever take command of the Avengers in Phase 4 of the MCU. To fans, Captain Marvel seems like a natural choice as the leader of the Avengers because of her discipline and her ability to link stories from the Cosmic and regular side of the Marvel film franchise.
This isn't the first time that there's been speculation that Captain Marvel may take over the Avengers. Marvel Studios heavily promoted Captain Marvel before its release, and at some point, Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige called Carol Danvers Marvel's strongest Avenger.
Marvel's attention seems to have shifted, however. Not only did it take a while for Marvel to announce plans for Captain Marvel 2, but the title "strongest Avenger" has been taken from Carol Danvers and given to Scarlett Witch (Elizabeth Olsen) instead.
We'll have to wait and see who exactly Marvel has planned as the head of the Avengers in Phase 4 of the MCU.
Marvel's next film, Black Widow, is set to release on November 6, 2020.
