Marvel recently updated its calendar for its Phase 4 films, giving Captain Marvel 2 a July 2022 release date. Not much is known yet about the sequel, but word says it might set the stage for the New Avengers.

According to MCU Cosmic, Captain Marvel 2 will set up New Avengers films, much like what was done in the 2016 film Captain America: Civil Wa.r Though the movie was mainly focused on Steve Roger's story, it also set up the events for Avengers: Infinity War.

The outlet also says there's a possibility that whoever ends up directing Captain Marvel 2 could be helming the New Avengers as well, which is what the Russo Brothers did from Civil War to the last two Avengers movies.

In the comics, the New Avengers were seen as some sort of an iteration of the Earth's Mightiest Heroes, including the likes of Spider-Man, Wolverine, Captain America, Iron Man, and Spider-Woman, amongst others. That said, the version of the Marvel Cinematic Universe could be different.

Aside from that, the outlet didn't go further into detail on how the Captain Marvel sequel could set up what's to come in the New Avengers films. But it is important to note that this is just a rumor, so take this with a grain of salt. Regardless, I think it's actually a pretty cool idea.
