Robert Downey Jr. made headlines this week after it was reported that the Marvel Cinematic Universe pioneer was allegedly spotted on the set of Captain America: Brave New World in Washington, DC.
While the news, which originally came from author Nawar Shora (via Covered Geekly) didn't exactly state whether or not RDJ was there filming scenes for the Phase Five film, fans were quick to jump to the conclusion that he'll reprise his role as Tony Stark aka Iron Man.
Now, a follow-up report aims to put an end to the speculation surrounding the 58-year-old star's potential MCU comeback and despite the fandom's hopes, things aren't looking all that promising.
Robert Downey Jr.'s Captain America: Brave New World Involvement Debunked by New Report
According to Twitter insider MyTimeToShineHello, despite Downey's set visit, he's in no way involved in the fourth Captain America film. She didn't go into detail about the actor's agenda but it's safe to assume he was just there to say hello to a few friends.

RDJ has been trying his best to stay away from the MCU limelight but rumors are still persistent that he'll eventually make his return to the franchise that relaunched his Hollywood career.
Of course, the MCU is currently utilizing the multiverse concept and judging by the stuff we've seen since Phase Four, virtually anything is now possible, including a potential return for Tony Stark.
Whether or not it actually happens in the future remains to be seen but with Avengers: Secret Wars just a couple of years away from us, we'd like to think that Kevin Feige won't let the opportunity slip away, especially considering the film will reportedly serve as a full-blown Marvel homecoming for past and present actors.
Captain America: Brave New World is now slated for release in cinemas on August 26, 2024.
