Fans who watched Deadpool 2 really enjoyed Josh Brolin's interpretation of Cable, making him a badass with a good heart. The character was so moved by Deadpool's sacrifice in the end that he time traveled to make sure Wade Wilson survives (and gets another movie). It turns out that we almost saw Cable in the critically acclaimed X-Men: Days of Future Past, where he would have been killed.
Rob Liefeld revealed this during an interview with ScreenRant, saying that director Bryan Singer had plans to introduce him in the future scenes and killing him. Liefeld was against this, saying that Cable was too big of a character to be given the shaft, and the character was soon replaced by Bishop. This ended up working in its favor since Bishop's powers are a little more visually alluring and make for better fight scenes.
Here is the full explanation:
As Deadpool 2 proved, Liefeld was right when it came to saving the character for a bigger appearance. Josh Brolin made him way more memorable and we're glad that the character wasn't randomly killed off to add some stakes. Hopefully, Bishop re-appears in a future X-Men film.
X-Men: Dark Phoenix comes out on June 6. X-Men: Days of Future Past is available now on Blu-Ray and DVD.
