Rian Johnson may be set to direct his own Star Wars trilogy for Lucasfilm, but for now, he's working on a more personal project called Knives Out. The film has recently nabbed Avengers actor Chris Evans and now news has it that they've added a new cast member from Blade Runner 2049.
According to Deadline, actress Ana de Armas has joined the cast of Knives Out. No details have been revealed about her role, but so the same could be said about the other characters in the film. I'm actually very fond of de Armas' work after Blade Runner, and I could say that she's one of the more memorable aspects of that film.
Besides Evans and Armas, the film also has a cast which includes the likes of Michael Shannon and Lakeith Stanfield. Daniel Craig is set to play the role of the lead detective.
With Knives Out, Johnson is said to be going back to his roots, and the film will be less Star Wars and more of Brick and Looper. The movie has also been described as a ‘‘modern-day murder mystery in the classic whodunit style.''
Though a lot of haters may look at Johnson and say that he ‘ruined' Star Wars, I'm on the completely opposite side saying that he actually set the franchise in the right direction. It's amazing how he was able to subvert all expectations with TLJ while at the same time making homages that felt a lot like the original. If you ask me, I kind of wish that he was also at the helm of Episode IX.
No release date has been set for Johnson's Knives Out.
