BLACKPINK Jennie Invited to Cannes Film Festival

On Friday, BLACKPINK and Jennie's agency YG Entertainment confirmed that the idol has been invited to the event.

"Jennie has been invited to the festival, but she has not yet decided whether to attend the ceremony or not," the label went on, per The Korea Times.

Once she confirms her attendance, it will be the first time she will be part of the festival.

The invitation came after the Solo hitmaker marked her acting debut in the HBO series, The Idol. The series was selected for the 2023 Cannes Film Festival's out-of-competition section.

The Idol's exact release date is yet to be confirmed, but HBO previously stated in its third trailer that the flick is "coming in 2023."

Jennie, who debuted as Jennie Ruby Jane as an actress, plays an undisclosed role in the series.

The series also features Lily-Rose Depp and Abel Tesfaye as the lead stars, while Suzanna Son, Troye Sivan, Moses Sumney, Dan Levy, Jane Adams, Mike Dean, Ramsey, Rachel Sennott, and Eli Roth, among others, play supporting roles.

Fans Want To See Jennie at Cannes Film Festival

Following the announcement, BLACKPINK and Jennie's fans urged YG Entertainment to let her attend the event.

As of press time, however, the label is yet to confirm her schedule due to the girl group's ongoing shows.

There will be no Korean films to compete at the festival. But Kim Jee Woon's Cobweb and Kim Chang Hoon's Hopeless have been invited to the out-of-competition section and Un Certain Regard section, respectively.
