Fans have long been waiting for Zootopia 2 to come to fruition, and the box office numbers that churned from the sequel spoke volumes about it.
Zootopia 2 is set to become the seventh animated Disney movie to ever gross more than $600 million worldwide, and it's about to enter the billion-dollar run club. Here's why.
Could Zootopia 2 Hit the Billion-Dollar Run Club?

As of Sunday morning, per Variety's report, Zootopia 2 is projected to hit a worldwide box office total of $915.8 million by the end of its second weekend in theaters.
This would comprise $220.5 million from domestic theaters with an additional $695.3 million from the global audience (including China, where it recently became the second highest-grossing American movie of all time, just behind Avengers: Endgame).
Meaning, Zootopia 2 will have passed the $900 million milestone in a span of just 12 days of sitting in theaters. Considering the trajectory and the speed with its theatrical run thus far, it's not unlikely for the sequel to pass the billion-dollar milestone soon enough!
Currently, Zootopia 2 is the fifth-highest-grossing theatrical release of all time from Walt Disney Animation Studios. In its 12 days in theaters, the sequel earned more than the House of Mouse's billion-dollar hits, Frozen and the original Zootopia movie.
Keep in mind that apart from these 2, only three other 2025 movies have grossed over $900 million, which include A Minecraft Movie, Lilo & Stitch, and Ne Zha 2. The latter two titles are the only billion-dollar releases of 2025 so far.
How Did Zootopia 2 Become an Instant Hit Among Disney Watchers?

The first Zootopia became an instant hit among Disney watchers. Apart from the creators paying close attention to building their world and showcasing their research about the animal kingdom, the dynamic between Officer Judy Hopps, a bunny who strove hard to get to the top of the police force in the ZPD, and the sly fox Nick Wilde, who hustled his way to get through life, captured the heart of the film.
Despite the movie highlighting adult themes such as racism, political problems, and other discriminatory issues, Zootopia covered a wider scope than any Disney movie had achieved before its 2016 release.
Zootopia 2 only continued to prove just how creative their team is, considering that they used the lack of reptiles and birds in the first movie to their advantage: making a sequel (or possible threequel too) to address it by forming the "true" history of who really deserved credit for the animal kingdom utopia they've all dreamed of.
Who's to say it stops at Zootopia 2?
