Former cast member Bill Hader notably did not make an appearance in SNL 50: The Anniversary Special, and we finally know the reason behind his absence.

Hader was one of the notable alumni of the iconic series who did not show up during the celebration event which made fans disappointed as they were looking forward to seeing him reunite with the other cast members.

According to a report, Hader did not appear in SNL 50: The Anniversary Special due to a "longstanding schedule conflict."

His absence was already hinted at days before the live broadcast of the special as Puck already reported that Hader's team politely declined the invitation to participate.

There is no specific reason provided on what kind of project or conflict held back Hader from being part of the special event.

However, despite not making an appearance in the anniversary special, Hader was part of a special The Californians Volkswagen commercial with Kristen Wiig and Fred Armisen that aired during the break.

A lot of fans online have expressed their disappointment towards Hader's absence in the anniversary special as they felt that he was a major missing piece and could have been heavily involved in multiple sketches.

The SNL Cast Members Who Were Missing in SNL 50: The Anniversary Special

Aside from Hader, original cast member Dan Aykroyd was also absent during SNL 50: The Anniversary Special.

There is no reason provided regarding why Aykroyd did not show up at the celebration event despite being one of the pillars of the series and considered to be one of its legendary alumni.

A few days before the live broadcast, Aykroyd posted about the show's anniversary on X and never mentioned that he would be skipping the event.

"Cracking a Head with pride at having been a co-founder of SNL along with everyone we were together with in those four years, five decades ago. This telecast is as historical as the next moon landing. Comedy stars of our age all gathered under the aegis of America’s greatest living impresario, my boss Lorne Michaels. People it’s friggin’ Holy!!" he wrote.

Dana Carvey and Colin Quinn were also missing in the special. No reasons were also provided regarding why they did not show up.
