Seth Meyers admitted recently that he is having mental health concerns amid the changing landscape of the late-night television business.

Following CBS's shocking decision to cancel The Late Show with Stephen Colbert, there have been existential questions about the fate of late-night television and whether the other shows in the genre might follow suit in the future. Media experts have stated that the late-night business has severely declined over the last few years due to lower viewership on linear television.

In an interview on the Armchair Expert with Dax Shepard podcast (via Variety), Meyers opened up about his thoughts on the future of Late Night with Seth Meyers following the cancellation of Stephen Colbert's show.

He shared that the future of this show is "outside of my control" and the current ecosystem "might not support" the late-night business in the long run.

"I do [have a fear]. I mean, only because it is such a time we’re living in, as far as the entertainment industry. There is this weird thing that I feel like I shifted from fearing that I wouldn’t be good enough. And now my fear is weirdly more outside of my control, which is... just at some point, the ecosystem might not support [late-night]," Meyers said.

While he is worried about the future of his show, Meyers prefers to focus more on the job for now and continues to produce episodes.

He said, "That’s the only part they’re paying you to do. It’s the only part you’re good at. All the other problems, we have people that are as good at that as you are at the thing you do — and don’t mess around with it."

Meyers also admitted that he is worried about his mental health if his show ever gets canceled in the future.

"I would worry about myself, like, mental health-wise. But I put a lot of thought into diversifying my skill set. Certainly, financially, I could have been fine just doing the show for the last eleven years," he explained.

"But then it was like, oh, you know what? I feel like there’s something to trying to build a stand-up career and trying to do other things. It’s more like, try to find something that makes you as happy as late night’s making you, but it’s not just to have busy work or anything. It’s like, oh, I like these things, too. And there’s no one entity that can take everything away at once, and I think that’s the scariest situation to be in."

What is NBC's Plan for the Future of Late Night with Seth Meyers?

So far, NBC has no plans to end the run of Late Night with Seth Meyers anytime soon amid the changing landscape of television.

Last year, Meyers renewed his deal with NBC to continue hosting Late Night until 2028. However, it also suffered from budget cuts as they had to discontinue the 8G Band as part of the show.

In other words, fans shouldn't worry about Meyers' future anytime soon, as he is still contractually obligated to host the show for the next three years. But the question now is whether it will be renewed again once that time comes.

Other late-night shows are still expected to remain on air, but they have also shown solidarity for Colbert after the cancellation.
