The fan-favorite satirical superhero saga The Boys will conclude with its upcoming fifth and final season, bringing an end to the conflict between Homelander (Antony Starr) and Billy Butcher (Karl Urban).
The stakes are higher than ever after the shocking finale of Season 4, with most of The Boys captured and Butcher determined to eradicate all supes using the stolen virus.
Now that production on the fifth season has wrapped, here’s what fans can expect from The Boys Season 5.
When Will The Boys Season 5 Be Released?
Series creator Eric Kripke has announced the completion of The Boys Season 5’s production in an emotional Instagram post, saying goodbye to a show that has captivated viewers since its debut in 2019.
“This is the last time I’ll ever be on this set. It’ll be torn down soon. It’s bittersweet, but my primary feeling is gratitude,” he said. “We have the best cast, the best crew, the most fun story to write, and something that is impossible to predict: the right timing.”
Kripke went on to thank and express his love for The Boys family, as well as his gratitude to fans for their continued support.
“Can’t wait for you to see the grand finale,” he teased. “That’s a wrap.”
Now that filming has concluded, fans are eagerly awaiting the release. However, it may still take some time before their favorite superpowered individuals return to the small screen.
Just like its previous season, which production wrapped up in April 2023 but wasn’t release until June 2024, it might take another 14 months before The Boys Season 5 premieres.
If this happens, the final season may not be out until September 2026. Anyhow, it’s still expected to feature eight episodes, consistent with the format of prior seasons.
Who are the Cast of The Boys Season 5?
As expected, the show’s main cast, Karl Urban, Jack Quaid, Antony Starr, Erin Moriarty, Jessie T. Usher, Laz Alonso, Chace Crawford, Tomer Capone, Karen Fukuhara, and Cameron Crovetti, will return to reprise their roles in The Boys Season 5.
Jensen Ackles will also return as Soldier Boy, joined by other Supernatural alums Jared Padalecki and Misha Collins, setting the stage for an exciting reunion. However, Padalecki and Collins’ roles have yet to be revealed.
Hamilton star Daveed Diggs is also joining the cast in an unspecified series-regular role, while Stranger Things’ Mason Dye will appear as Bombsight.
What is The Boys Season 5 About?
The Boys Season 5 will pick up where Season 4 left off, which shocking finale saw Homelander seizing control of the U.S. and declaring martial law.
As teased by Kripke himself, Butcher is set to become the monster in the upcoming season, while Hughie (Quaid) will learn “what it means to be human.”
And since this will be the final season, major character deaths are expected and no one is safe now that the story is coming to an end.
“There’s no guarantee who’s going to survive because you don’t have to keep [the cast] for another season,” the showrunner told Gamesradar+.
As Quaid put it, a lot of them are “probably gonna die.”
In addition, the final season is expected to explore the father-son dynamic between Soldier Boy (Ackles) and Homelander, Ryan’s (Crovetti) allegiance, Ashley Barrett’s (Colby Minifie) fate after taking Compound V, and A-Train’s (Usher) possible return to protect his family.
So, it looks like fans have a lot to look forward to when The Boys Season 5 finally premieres.
