Before Joker, Catch Honest Trailer for 1966's Batman: The Movie

Todd Phillips’ Joker is set to hit theaters by the end of the week, and with Screen Junkies already having covered most of the Batman films, they’re digging deep and releasing an Honest Trailer for Batman: The Movie from 1966.

You love the dark Batman defining performances of Keaton, Bale, and Affleck. Now, let Adam West take you back to Batman’s roots—a bachelor who lives with a teenage boy, isn’t exactly in peak human condition, and follow’s one iron-clad rule: Keep your hands off his girl.

With Batman being the poster boy for angsty superheroes, a lot of fans have forgotten just how wacky he was way back when Adam West was playing him on TV. If anything, Batman didn’t get dark until the 80s, so no one really took issue with this version of the Caped Crusader.

Going back to Joker though, I think it’s a pretty neat influence that Joaquin Phoenix’s Joker suit is closer to the colors of Cesar Romero’s outfit from the 60s run. Besides the Romero influence, the make-up and long hair likely comes from The Dark Knight’s Joker played by Heath Ledger.

I’m pretty excited for the release of Joker, and I’m kind of happy that it’s aiming for a more mature story compared to the kid-friendly films like Aquaman and Shazam!. Let’s just hope the success of this film pushes WB to be more risky with their comic book films moving forward.

Catch Joker when it hits theaters Oct. 4.
