Despite Deadpool & Wolverine's record-breaking run at the box office, it can't stay at the top forever. Tim Burton's Beetlejuice Beetlejuice just stole the spotlight away from the MCU duo by taking the top spot!
Beetlejuice Beetlejuice's Record-Breaking Box Office Knocks Deadpool & Wolverine
Deadpool & Wolverine became the fourth biggest Hollywood Superhero opening upon its theatrical release.
To put things into perspective: its $211.4M opening beat previous record-holding acclaimed films such as Disney's live-action The Lion King ($191.8M), Black Panther ($202M), The Avengers ($207.4M), and Jurassic World ($208.8M).
That, however, changed when Tim Burton's Beetlejuice Beetlejuice made its recent debut, on September 6, as it scaled up to $101M in North America ($145M globally).
The Beetlejuice sequel became director Tim Burton's 2nd biggest opening, 2nd best September opening, and 2nd biggest opening ever for a horror film, surpassing Warner Bros.' It: Chapter 2 ($91M).
Not to mention, the sequel also happened to surpass its original movie's global gross of $74M after a whole weekend in theaters.
This, however, is just the beginning, especially considering that it's merely the first-weekend record for the Beetlejuice sequel starring Michael Keaton's titular character, Winona Ryder's Lydia Deetz, Jenna Ortega's Astrid Deetz, Willem Dafoe's Wolf Jackson, and Catherine O'Hara's Delia Deetz, to mention a few.
As for the possibility of a Beetlejuice 3, apart from having to keep their record straight on the global and domestic box office charts, Burton's consideration of filming another should come to mind, as well.
"Yeah, I mean, they talk, whatever, but if it follows the model now, I'd be making that one, I'd be over 100, and it's possible, but I don't know," Burton previously said during a press event, "But no, I mean, like I said, for me, I wasn't personally interested."
Beetlejuice 2 sees three generations of the Deetz family return to Winter River. As much as Lydia sought to keep the family safe from 'BJ', her rebellious teenage daughter, Astrid, discovers the mystery of the town and the portal to the Afterlife, which "brewed trouble in both realms."
