Bad Bunny recently addressed the backlash to the announcement that he will be the headline artist in next year's Super Bowl during his Saturday Night Live monologue.
Last week, we learned the exciting news that the Grammy-winning artist has been tapped to headline the 2026 Super Bowl Halftime Show. While the announcement was celebrated by his fans worldwide, the NFL's decision has also received backlash from conservative and MAGA groups and threats that ICE will surround the stadium during the event.
What Does Bad Bunny Think of the Super Bowl Backlash?
During the season 51 premiere episode of Saturday Night Live, Bad Bunny delivered a monologue that addressed his upcoming turn at the Super Bowl Halftime Show.
"You might not know this, but I’m doing the Super Bowl Halftime Show. And I’m very happy, and I think everybody’s happy about it," he said before delivering the punchline, "Even Fox News!"
They showed a montaged clip of pieced together segments of different Fox News hosts where they appeared to be saying, "Bad Bunny is my favorite musician and he should be the next president."
The musician continued, "I’m really excited to be doing the Super Bowl, I know that people all around the world who love my music are also happy."
Bad Bunny switched to Spanish as he delivered a message to the Latino community: "Especially all of the Latinos and Latinas in the world here in the United States who have worked to open doors. It’s more than a win for myself, it’s a win for all of us. Our footprints and our contribution in this country, no one will ever be able to take that away or erase it."
He switched back to English when he concluded his monologue. "And, if you didn’t understand what I just said, you have four months to learn!"
What to Expect in Bad Bunny's Super Bowl Performance
So far, the details regarding the songs that Bad Bunny is planning to include in his upcoming Super Bowl Halftime Show performance are still under wraps.
This won't be his first time performing in the Super Bowl crowd, since he previously joined Shakira and Jennifer Lopez as a guest performer when they headlined the Halftime Show in 2020.
There were previous rumors that Taylor Swift might perform due to her high-profile relationship with Travis Kelce. However, it was reportedly rejected, and Bad Bunny was tapped to headline instead.
