Nick Carter is facing another scandal after a woman sued him for sexual assault, claiming it led to her contracting an STD and, eventually, developing cancer.
The civil complaint is the fourth sexual assault lawsuit filed against the Backstreet Boys member, and also the fourth allegation he denies.
Nick Carter’s Newest Legal Complaints Involves Him Allegedly Sexually Assaulting A Woman Twice
The newest sexual assault allegations Nick Carter is facing paint him as someone who will not take no for an answer, despite being in a relationship with the woman.
The suer, who goes by Laura Penly, said in her complaint filed in Nevada that she was subjected to non-consensual sex with Carter at 19 years old. The performer, who was 25 at the time, allegedly raped her twice.
From December 2004 to February 2005, she claims they were together and intimate on three occasions before Carter turned aggressive, forcing her to have sex even when she didn’t want to.
Carter was also accused of saying “the only reason she was there was to have sex” every time she refused.
Penly claimed that protection wasn’t used during these incidents, causing her to contract sexually transmitted diseases like HPV. Unfortunately, it later developed into cervical cancer.
However, Carter denied Penly’s allegations, saying he doesn’t recall meeting her.
Carter’s attorneys, Liane K. Wakayama and Dale Hayes, stated, “He certainly never had any romantic or sexual relationship with her. Ever.”
They said the allegations are “just more of the same nonsense from the gang of conspirators and their lawyers who continue to abuse the justice system to try to ruin Nick Carter.”
Also included in their statement is a description of Penly’s lawsuit as “utterly false” and “drawn from the same predictable playbook” that damages Carter’s reputation, especially at a time when he’s celebrating a career milestone with the Backstreet Boys’ Into the Millennium tour.
Penly demands a jury trial in the lawsuit against Carter and is seeking $15,000 in damages.
Previous Allegations Against Nick Carter and How He Responded to Them
Nick Carter has been involved in a series of sexual assault complaints over the past 10 years, and here’s how he defended himself against them.
The first legal trouble for Carter began in 2022. A woman with cerebral palsy named Shannon “Shay” Ruth came forward to accuse the boyband member of rape when she was a virgin at 17, during a time she was invited onto his tour bus in 2001.
Ruth, who also shared that she is on the autism spectrum, tested positive for HPV after the alleged assault.
Carter responded by denying all claims and filed a defamation lawsuit against Ruth.
Two more rape allegations against Carter surfaced in 2023. Melissa Schuman, a former member of the group Dream, said she was forced to perform sexual acts with him even though she intended to remain a virgin until marriage.
Once again, Carter hit back with a defamation counterclaim and vehemently denied the accusations.
The third complainant is Ashley Repp, who said Carter allegedly sexually abused her when she was 15 years old.
Carter’s usual defamation lawsuit this time was dismissed after a Nevada judge at a hearing found that they had sexual relations when she was still a minor.
