The Bear star Ayo Edebiri revealed that she has received death threats after X owner Elon Musk posted false news about her alleged casting in Disney's Pirates of the Caribbean reboot.

For the past few years, we've been hearing rumors and speculations about the future of the Pirates of the Caribbean franchise with several stars including Edebiri being named as potential replacements for Johnny Depp in the leading role.

Ayo Edebiri Calls Out Death Threats About Fake Pirates of the Caribbean Casting

In her post on Instagram story, Edebiri shared that she has received "insane" death threats as a result of Musk posting a false report on X that Disney is considering her to replace Depp as the star of a new Pirates of the Caribbean reboot.

The X owner reacted to the alleged report by writing, "Disney sucks."

"Just remembering when I got some of the most insane death threats and racial slurs of my life (idk if it’s the #1 moment, but for sure top 3) for a fake reboot of a movie I had never even heard of because of this man," The Bear star wrote in her Instagram story post.

"LMAO. So not only is he double Sieg Heil-ing fascist, he’s an idiot but anyway."

In a subsequent post, Edebiri clarified that she wasn't trying to stir the pot with her reaction to the death threats.

She wrote, "Stop making my IG stories news. I’m just tryna have a silly goofy time."

What is the Future of Disney's Pirates of the Caribbean Franchise?

So far, Disney has not officially greenlit any new Pirates of the Caribbean movie as they are still figuring out the future of the franchise.

Last year, producer Jerry Bruckheimer revealed that writer Jeff Nathanson has been working on a script for the potential reboot.

"He’s cracked it. He’s got an amazing third act. We just gotta clean up the first and second and then we’ll get there. But he wrote a great, great third act," he said.

Bruckheimer also did not rule out Depp's potential return to the franchise to reprise the role of Jack Sparrow.

"It’s a reboot, but if it was up to me, he would be in it. I love him. He’s a good friend. He’s an amazing artist and he’s a unique look. He created Captain Jack. That was not on the page, that was him doing a little Pepé Le Pew and Keith Richards. That was his interpretation of Jack Sparrow," he said.
