There's a lot of things that people loved about Avengers: Endgame. However, there was one key scene that most fans have been complaining about. So what is wrong for Black Widow's story to get such a painful treatment? The Endgame writers are defending their decision to let Natasha Romanoff take the plunge.
In Endgame, Natasha and Clint Barton are sent to retrieve the Soul Stone from Vormir. Once there, they realize that one of them would have to sacrifice themselves to procure the Infinity Stone. After a lengthy struggle, Nat finally managed to sacrifice herself so Clint can claim the Stone.
It was an emotional moment that has been criticized by fans who believe that Black Widow deserved better. Nevertheless, Endgame writers Christopher Markus and Stephen McFeely told The Los Angeles Times that it was the only way for Nat to go.
McFeely supported Markus' response. "We couldn't be afraid to kill her simply because she was the most important and the first female character," he said.
Nat's death certainly was unexpected but it also proved that she was the one who truly believed in doing "whatever it takes" to save the universe. Although we'll get to see Scarlett Johansson again in the Black Widow movie, it's still depressing knowing that it might be the last film we'll see Nat in.
Avengers: Endgame is still screening in theaters worldwide.
