Avatar 2: James Cameron Offers Updates on Upcoming Sequels

It has been a long time since we got any updates on the Avatar sequels. Luckily, James Cameron has just confirmed that the highly anticipated sequels to the 2009 film are almost done.

Cameron recently spoke to Variety about Avatar 2 and he revealed that there have been no problems with the development of the sequels.

"From 2013 until now we've mostly designed the whole world across four new movies," Cameron said. "We've written, finished scripts for all four of those films. We've cast them, and we've [performance] captured Movie 2, Movie 3, and the first part of Movie 4. We're mostly done with the live-action. I've got a couple [of] months in New Zealand in spring, so we're kind of on track with what we set out to do."

If you were wondering why it's taking so long to finish these films, Cameron was quick to point out that any project of Avatar's scale needs plenty of time.

"People don't really understand the scope and complexity of the process," Cameron said. "It's like making two and a half big animated films. A typical big animated film takes about four years, so, if you do the math on that, we're kind of right on schedule for December 2021."

This is great news for anyone who has been worried that Avatar 2 will be delayed yet again. Hopefully, we'll be getting the first trailer for the first sequel early next year.

Avatar 2 is currently scheduled for release on December 17, 2021.
