Riot Games and Fortiche Production have officially confirmed that more Arcane spinoffs are in development, and Ekko's voice actor, Reed Shannon, teased that the franchise could last for "the rest of your life."
Following the conclusion of Netflix's Arcane after two seasons, Riot is developing three new series set in the League of Legends universe. So, what can fans expect from these upcoming shows, and will Ekko be part of them?
Will Ekko Be Part of the Arcane Spinoffs?
Known as "The Boy Who Shattered Time," Ekko is a gifted time manipulator and the benevolent leader of the Firelights, protecting Zaun's undercity refugees while disrupting Silco's dangerous shimmer trade.
Although Arcane ended after two seasons, Reed Shannon confirmed that Vi and Jinx's childhood friend will return in future Riot Games projects, and his story could continue much longer than fans expect.
"The team told me this is something that will last probably the rest of your life," he told The Direct.
Shannon added that Riot Games has "so many different plans" for the franchise's future, although he still doesn't know "what part of the League of Legends universe" Ekko will be involved in next.
With that said, the actor hopes the upcoming spinoffs will continue Ekko and Jinx's story after their deeply tragic childhood friendship evolved into an adversarial yet compassionate relationship.
Before everything fell apart, the two were inseparable friends in Zaun. However, their paths diverged after Powder (Jinx’s alter ego) was taken in by Silco.
While Ekko grew into the heroic leader of the Firelights, Jinx struggled with her fractured identity. So if there's one spinoff Shannon wants to see, it's "Ekko going through multiverses searching for Jinx."
What to Expect From the Arcane Spinoffs?
It has been almost two years since Arcane Season 2 ended, but Riot Games has remained mum about its upcoming spinoffs.
For now, Riot is focused on League of Legends and 2XKO, a fighting game set in the fictional world of Runeterra, where several Arcane characters return as playable fighters.
Meanwhile, Fortiche is busy working on other animated projects, including Miss Saturne and Penelope of Sparta.
The last major update on the Arcane spinoffs came when co-creator Christian Linke revealed in 2024 that Riot was "pretty aggressively developing" the projects, adding that the expanding cinematic universe would explore regions such as "Noxus, Ionia, and Demacia."
From the sound of it, Riot appears to be shifting its focus to the broader world of Runeterra rather than returning immediately to Piltover and Zaun.
However, fans may need to wait a little longer before they see these projects on the small screen. Arcane itself took nearly six years to produce before its first season premiered, followed by another three years for Season 2.
While Riot has already confirmed that multiple spinoffs are in development, it could still be several years before the first of those projects is ready for release.
