Not many actors manage to be successful both in their local film industry as well as Hollywood, but Irrfan Khan had managed to pull it off, being a film star in Bollywood while at the same time appearing in blockbusters like The Amazing Spider-Man and Jurassic World. The sad news is, Khan had passed away last Wednesday at the age of 53.
According to Variety, Khan had been admitted to the intensive care unit of Mumbai's Kokilaben hospital with a colon infection. Back in 2018, he was diagnosed with a neuroendocrine tumor and underwent extensive treatment in London. He had recovered well enough to shoot one more film called Angrezi Medium, and it looks like it would be his last movie.
His PR Company had released this statement upon his death:
"surrounded by his love, his family for whom he most cared about, he left for heavenly abode, leaving behind truly a legacy of his own.
"We all pray and hope that he is at peace."
Khan is probably one of the more prominent Indian actors in Hollywood and has certainly made his mark in cinema with his work. Besides the films listed previously, he had also starred in movies like Life of Pi, Slumdog Millionaire, and The Darjeeling Limited; not to mention he was also in several TV roles and films for his local Bollywood.
I can only imagine how Bollywood is reacting to the loss of one of their biggest stars, and I'm sure it will be some time before someone matches up to Khan's accomplishments, both locally and globally.
