Disney CEO Bob Iger sent Alien fans into a frenzy last month when he unexpectedly confirmed the existence of a new Alien film during an investors’ earning call.
The CEO even revealed a release date: August 16 of this year! That's just around the corner, so Disney releasing the first Alien Romulus trailer any day now would not be surprising.
Good news for the fans: we won’t have to wait long because it's confirmed that the trailer will be dropping this month!
This was revealed by CNBC writer Daniel Richtman, who posts on X under the username DanielRPK. However, that’s the only new detail about the latest film in the sci-fi/horror franchise that pits humans against the famous nightmare alien creatures, Xenomorphs.
While actual plot details remain a tightly kept secret, cast information has already been made available to the public.
Cailee Spaeny will be playing the lead. Other actors include Madame Web’s Isabela Merced, Aftersun’s Spike Fearn, Industry’s David Jonsson, and actress/producer Aileen Wu. Archie Renaux, who appeared previously in Shadow and Bone, is also part of the cast.
The only plot detail that was available came from lead star Spaeny, who told Variety in an interview that the film is set between Alien and Aliens.
It also appears that the film will return to its slasher/horror roots. Isabela Merced revealed in another interview that she had watched a partially edited Alien: Romulus, and it had a scene featuring her that was so bloody her castmates couldn't bear to watch.
Alien: Romulus is being directed by Fede Alvarez, who is known for his 2010 film Evil Dead and his remake of The Texas Chainsaw Massacre. Ridley Scott, who also directed the first films in the series, is on board as a producer under his Scott Free production company, together with Michael Pruss.
