Fans are well aware that the Alien franchise is one of the most disturbing yet fascinating series to exist to date. However, one particular episode of Alien: Earth proved to be the hardest thing to top off in its entirety. Here’s what the showrunner said.
WARNING: This article contains MAJOR SPOILERS for Alien: Earth, so proceed with caution.
What Does the Showrunner Deem the ‘Most Disturbing Scene’ in Alien: Earth?
Alien: Earth episode 6 titled The Fly shows Tootles, also known as Isaac’s insistence to feed the aliens in the containment unit by himself, and we all know that humans and creatures stuck in containers have never mixed.
Unfortunately, that’s exactly what happened when Tootles decided to ignore Kirch’s strict instructions to ask Curly for help.
Isaac enters the cell in the least cautious way, holding a plate of metal for their dinner.

However, as his (bad) luck would have it, the sheep, controlled by The Eye in the next pod, rammed against the glass, stirring the hybrid to fall and end up locking him inside. We all know how that ends: Tootles became fly food.
“When the locking of the door happens, and he’s pushing the door because it’s actually in a wide shot, he’s just mildly irritated by it,” Kit Young, who portrayed Tootles, told Collider, also noting that while his character is not made of metal, their container is, “He hasn’t yet clocked that it’s game over.”
Why Does the Alien: Earth Showrunner Consider That the 'Most Disturbing Scene' in the Series?
Alien: Earth showrunner Noah Hawley knew then and there, even as he had just written down the scene, that it would be the most grotesque to put on TV.
“I had the sheep, that is not by design an evil creature, right? And there’s comedy to that, right? That it’s like an evil sheep,” Hawley explained, “You know, goats, we get. Goats have a satanic history. This idea that the sheep, who are not known for their intellect, was a sort of mastermind was kind of irresistible to me.”

In episode 6, the sheep was intelligent enough to ultimately have Isaac killed in the container, thanks to its interference: “The sheep saw an opportunity and took it. You begin to realize, ‘Oh, this thing isn’t just ‘animal smart.’ This thing is maybe a consciousness that has the potential to really take over.”
Meanwhile, Alien: Earth episode 7 premieres on September 16, with new episodes releasing weekly through September 23.
