The first episode of Agents of SHIELD's seventh and final season has recently made its debut, featuring surprising cameos and shocking twists. However, it looks like there's more to look forward to as the Marvel series progresses.
In a recent interview with Deadline, Agents of SHIELD producers were asked if the series will "bump into more of the Marvel Cinematic Universe" for the final season, similar to what they have done before. "We're going to bump into something," Jed Whedon teased. "Yeah, we'll bump into something," Jeph Loeb added.
While they didn't go further into detail, Jeffrey Bell teased that "something will definitely happen" in the final season. It isn't necessarily a confirmation of an MCU tie-in, but the producers' comments are definitely intriguing, so fans ought to look out for the seventh season.
The team is mostly tight-lipped about the possible MCU connection, but it has been previously revealed that Agent Carter's Enver Gjokaj will return as Daniel Sousa at some point in the show, which is already something to look forward to in terms of other potential appearances.
Whedon thinks it's safe to say that the audience will "feel the thing" they wanted them to feel and that they would be "satisfied" with the ending as well. "I also think that the emotion of having a last season and knowing it's the end is heavy," he added. "I think that that carries into the episodes and carries into the storyline and the performances, and all of it."
Whedon and team are "happy" with what came to fruition and based on their comments, it seems like this final season is going to be a rollercoaster ride.
Agents of SHIELD airs Wednesday nights on ABC at 10 p.m. EST.
