MCU fans have been theorizing Mephisto's arrival to the billion-dollar franchise since WandaVision and Agatha All Along finally put closure on the villain's existence in episode 3 of the hit series.
Now, it seems like showrunner Jac Schaeffer is playing coy on a major Mephisto easter egg featured in the previous episode, claiming it wasn't done on purpose.
Agatha All Along Showrunner Claims Mephisto Easter Egg was Unintentional
"So, with WandaVision — again, this is me embarrassing myself in print — I didn't really know who Mephisto was when WandaVision dropped," Schaeffer explained in a recent interview with The Wrap, before mentioning the wine bottle prop labeled Maison du Mepris which translates to House of Mepris in English.
The wine bottle was something prop master Russell Bobbitt put in the episode that Schaeffer "was unaware of."
Schaeffer later added, "And obviously, now I'm familiar with the ways in which Mephisto ties into everything. So it was a shock to the writer's room that the Mephisto piece took off the way it did with WandaVision."
So, it only made sense to the showrunner and their writers' team to drop Mephisto's name in Agatha All Along episode 3 titled Through Many Miles / Of Tricks and Trials, and make things official.
Considering how witchcraft is slowly making its way into the canon Marvel Cinematic Universe, chances of Mephisto popping into the Agatha spinoff are highly likelier, given where the story is flowing to.
In this case, when Jen suspected that Teen could be one of the Agents of Mephisto working behind the scenes, Agatha All Along pretty much teases fans of the possibility of finally welcoming him to the franchise.
That, however, gets debunked when Schaeffer went, "I mean, you know I can neither confirm nor deny. I will say that that scene that you're talking about, between Jen and Teen is really about all of the conflicting rumors about Agatha."
The most that we've heard about Mephisto's live-action debut is supposed to set up his key role in Ironheart with Borat star Sacha Baron Cohen portraying the reimagined comic book villain. Stay tuned for more updates on this story.
