Agatha All Along star Kathryn Hahn opened up about her nude scene in episode 1 and revealed that she came up with the idea.
During the premiere episode of the new MCU series, after she was broken out of Wanda Maximoff's spell, Agatha was seen rushing outside her house naked and there was a brief shot of her bare butt when she walked back inside.
This is the first time that a female MCU cast member showed her bare butt on-screen. After all, it is rare for the family-friendly franchise to have brief nude moments with examples such as Chris Hemsworth in Thor: Love and Thunder.
Kathryn Hahn Reveals She Came Up with Agatha All Along Episode 1 Nude Scene
In a recent interview, Hahn revealed that she was the one who came up with the idea of Agatha Harkness' brief nude scene in episode 1 of Agatha All Along.
She explained that she wanted to convey her character's powerlessness which is why she had the idea of doing the scene that way.
"Well, I came up with it. I thought it was good to see her as stripped down, literally, as we possibly could, which spoke into her powerlessness at the present moment," the actress said.
"She’s been stripped of all of her power at this point in the series. I mean, she really had nothing at that point, and so it became about illustrating that gap between that moment and her finding her power again."
Showrunner Jac Schaeffer shared that it was originally scripted in the episode to have Agatha take a rob before running outside.
"Kathryn was like, ‘Would she grab the robe? I don’t feel like she would grab the robe. I feel like she would really not care about being naked in front of the neighbors," she explained.
"I told her, ‘That is the greatest idea I’ve ever heard.’ Kathryn has done so much work, and she’s done a lot of nudity and other things, and so it also felt very subversive to get Kathryn Hahn’s nudity into the MCU."
This is a testament to Hahn's commitment as a performer as she was willing to do a daring scene like that for the sake of her character and how she should be portrayed on-screen.
Since the first two episodes came out, fans have been praising Hahn's performance as Agatha Harkness and how she proved that she was worthy of being the lead star of a Marvel series.
