Agatha All Along star Joe Locke recently teased what they have in store for the MCU series and how it is similar to a beloved 80s classic.
A lot of fans have been anticipating the release of the WandaVision spinoff this fall which will continue Agatha Harkness' adventure in Westview and explore more of the witchcraft side of the MCU.
So far, Marvel Studios remains mum regarding most of the plot details of the series, but as we've seen in the trailer that they released, Agatha and her coven will be traveling to the Witches' Road.
Agatha All Along Will Be the MCU's Witchy Take on The Goonies
In a recent interview, Locke opened up about the style and vibes of Agatha All Along and revealed that it is similar to the 80s adventure film The Goonies.
"[Showrunner] Jac [Schaeffer] sent Kevin Feige a picture of the Witches’ Road set and he replied, ‘Oh my God, we’re making The Goonies.’ That’s what I’d been saying — that we were making this adventure series," he recalled.
Locke's character Billy Kaplan (aka Teen) will be the reason why Agatha and the other witches are traveling to the Witches' Road.
"It’s his idea to travel the Witches’ Road to get her power back. But in order to go on the Road, you’ve got to get a coven together. So how does a witch that no-one’s going to trust get a band of sisters together?" Schaeffer explained.
Locke teased his character, "He’s a familiar; he’s like the assistant to the coven. Teen is a big fan of witchcraft and witches, so for him to be taken under Agatha Harkness’ wing and form a coven and go down the Witches’ Road is his dream. He’s fanboy-esque, and in his element. Which is very fun — because I was [too]!"
This is an intriguing tease about the series since it gives us a bigger idea of what the story is about. Having it compared to The Goonies suggests that it will be an adventure tale, and it won't just simply be a horror comedy.
It also sounds like The Witches' Road will be a pivotal part of the story, and it is exciting to see how they'll handle that lore in the MCU series and whether Agatha will successfully reach that journey.
Agatha All Along will premiere with the first two episodes this September 18 on Disney+.
