The previously shelved film Coyote vs. Acme is finally seeing the light of day, as it was announced recently that Ketchup Entertainment has officially acquired the movie from Warner Bros.
The exciting news was celebrated by Looney Tunes fans as there had been a petition for the movie to be saved since reports came in 2023 that Warner Bros. Discovery had decided to shelve the project.
Here are the reasons why you should look forward to the release of Coyote vs. Acme next year.
The Caliber of Talent Involved
There are well-known talents involved in the making of Coyote vs. Acme, including DC Studios co-chairman and Superman director James Gunn, who serves as the producer, and Oscar nominee Samy Burch, who wrote the screenplay.
The cast includes great comedic talents such as Will Forte, Martha Kelly, and Tone Bell, wrestler and movie star John Cena, and To All the Boys star Lana Condor. Eric Bauza also voiced the Looney Tunes characters.
With this caliber of talent, we can expect quality work on the project, and it will be a worthy watch for audiences.
A Unique Looney Tunes Story
Coyote vs. Acme explores a Looney Tunes story that has never been done in any of the past films or TV shows before, as it will explore the legal genre in ways that we haven't seen in the franchise.
The film will focus on Coyote's lawsuit against the Acme Corporation after every product that he used to chase Road Runner backfired against him.
This will allow them to address a long-running joke in the Looney Tunes world, and for fans to find out why every Acme product has failed whenever Coyote uses them.
Wile E. Coyote Gets His Own Spotlight
Throughout the history of Looney Tunes, Wile E. Coyote has always been portrayed as a desperate character who always chases Road Runner and results in a spectacular failure.
However, thanks to Coyote vs. Acme, Wile E. Coyote will finally get his spotlight and become the star of his own movie. With the legal case that he is pursuing against a giant corporation, will we finally get to see him win this time around? Fortunately, it will be answered next year.
The Movie is 'Superb' Based on Past Screenings
Amid Amidi of Cartoon Brew shared in a 2023 article that he managed to watch an early screening of Coyote vs. Acme after it was reported that the project is being shelved.
He called the film "superb" and "a psychological portrait of a cartoon character that has ever been put onto film, and it delivers the kind of emotional gut punch that in all my years of loving Looney Tunes I never believed was even possible."
Other people who have seen the film have also shared similar sentiments, which is why there was an ongoing petition for the project to be rescued by another distributor.
Nostalgia for Looney Tunes Fans
If you're a long-time Looney Tunes fan, there is no doubt that Coyote vs. Acme should be a highly anticipated film for you, especially since it's rare to see the franchise get a theatrical run today.
As Ketchup Entertainment promised in their statement, the film is "a perfect blend of nostalgia and modern storytelling, capturing the essence of the beloved Looney Tunes characters while introducing them to a new generation.
Considering that Warner Bros. is not distributing this and The Day the Earth Blew Up: A Looney Tunes Movie, the future of Looney Tunes is currently in limbo, and it remains to be seen how they will move the franchise forward.
If Coyote vs. Acme becomes a huge hit when it releases next year, perhaps it will encourage Warner Bros. to produce more movies and other projects surrounding the Looney Tunes franchise without any danger of being shelved.
