Some of the movies that we know and love that are set on Christmas are not considered "Christmas movies" despite their holiday setting. Despite that, they are still worth watching even if they don't embody the spirit of the season.
Here are some of the movies that fall under the category.
Eyes Wide Shut
Christmas might not be the first thing that comes to your mind when you discuss the Stanley Kubrick masterpiece Eyes Wide Shut, but the holiday season is very much prevalent in its story.
The erotic thriller starring Tom Cruise and Nicole Kidman is not the type of "Christmas movie" to recommend for family viewing, but it is a great film nonetheless that still holds up to this day.
Gremlins
The Christmas season is a strong part of Gremlins, but despite its flourishing holiday setting, it is still not considered to be a Christmas movie due to its horror-comedy nature.
Despite its occasional grim tone, it is still a fun watch for the holiday season that the entire family can get into and there is some sort of Christmas magic that makes it a solid holiday entertainment.
Die Hard
For decades, there has been a debate on whether Die Hard is a Christmas movie or not. After all, the holiday season is a major backdrop of its action-packed story.
Regardless of where you fall on the debate, we have to acknowledge that the Christmas spirit is still prevalent in its themes as it centers on a husband who has to rescue his wife to celebrate the holidays together.
Batman Returns
Batman Returns might not be technically a Christmas movie, but the holiday season is very much part of its action-packed backdrop.
Throughout the film, we see the Caped Crusader face off against Catwoman and the Penguin in a snowy Gotham City as the citizens celebrate the most wonderful time of the year.
The Nightmare Before Christmas
The Nightmare Before Christmas might have "Christmas" in the title, but the film has mostly been associated with Halloween due to its spooky elements.
Despite that, it is also still a great holiday watch as it still has the Christmas spirit and magic that you might be looking for in a Christmas movie and you will end up smiling and feel the joy of the holidays.
