Magic: The Gathering Lead Designer Says Ikoria: Lair of Behemoths May Be Delayed Further

The official previews for Magic: The Gathering's upcoming expansion will begin on April 2, but before fans can get their first official look at the cards featured in the set, a new photo shared on Twitter may have leaked three of the cards from Ikoria, and as expected, they all look monstrous.

Befere we take a look at this leak, remember that these are unoffiical, unconfirmed details so view at your own risk! They might be a part of an April Fool's Joke.

Twitter user Charly Traarbach posted the original photo and translations of the Ikoria: Lair of Behemoths cards in Portuguese.

Here's the wrapper that contained the cards:

The cards shown in the photo are promo, alternate art cards featuring Godzilla and King Caesar as a cross-promotion, and the original names of the cards are written underneath, but they have special promo names representing these monsters. Note that Hasbro, the company that owns Wizards of the Coast, has a licensing deal with Toho International, the Japanese company behind these monsters. According to the source, these are box toppers, which match the description from Wizards Play Network: they're "unlike anything magic has ever done".

Magic head designer Mark Rosewater also recently teased information about the set, and the cards match one of the mechanics: Mutate. We still don't know exactly what it does, but it looks like it will be one of the craziest mechanics they've designed.

Ikoria: Lair of Behemoths is officially scheduled to be released on May 15 (rescheduled release day).
